Chestnut Tree |
Our Chestnut tree in the backyard is simply full and gorgeous! It's always about this time that the electric company comes through and hacks it's top and center right out so we are trying to enjoy it as much as possible before that happens. It is our best shade tree in the yard; the only draw back is you can't go barefoot anywhere back there because of the spiny chestnut hulls. If you step on one you'll pay for weeks possibly months afterwards as the spines break off and have to fester out and there will be 25 or more in the bottom of your foot... ask me how I know this is true? OUCH!
This is a weekly feature at down---to---earth
"This is a Friday photo feature that anyone with a blog can join. It opens the door to us sharing our lives through these photos and gives us all a new way to discover each other, and maybe form new friendships. Your photo should show something at home that you're thinking about TODAY. If you're in another country you should join in when you read this, even if it's still Thursday.
To take part, all you have to do is post a photo, write a short caption explaining it, and link it back to here. Please write a new post, don't link to an older one. When your photo is published, come back and add a comment below, with a link to your blog photo. Please visit all the blogs that appeal to you and leave a comment. If you are wondering why no one has commented on your On my mind post, maybe it's because you haven't commented on anyone else's. Slow down, take the time to cruise around and enjoy your cyber visits."
You are so lucky to have a chesnut tree. I'm thinking of putting one in here. I hate it when the electricity companies do that! At our last place we had a line of beautiful prunus trees and they hacked half of them off. Far more than was necessary. Enjoy your tree while it's like that.
ReplyDeleteHey Becky, thanks for popping by again. I remember you last time you popped by and commented on my "On My Mind" post. Thanks. My well behaved kids didn't last the whole day out but you get that with a 6 yo girl and a 4 yo boy. Just all part of growing up. I get worried when they're not arguing or at each other's throats! LOL Have a great day! xx
ReplyDeleteHi Becky, Most all of our neighborhood trees are gone because of power company taking them down...It's sad really because they sure don't replace them...No shade in most backyards:( anyway...the green dress I mentioned in blog is a beatiful shade of medium spring green...with matching sandals...and the first dress I have purchased in years...LOL...~~HUGS~~
ReplyDeleteThe tree trimmers hacked ours last fall and they're just starting to bloom. Your chestnut tree is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by :-). Wow, it is a lovely tree. We have quite a few trees on our rental property and around us and it is so lovely to hear the birds during the day.
ReplyDeleteAbout your question on whether you could bake "vetkoek" - if you baked it instead of frying it, then it will just be bread rolls because it is the same bread dough you would use to make bread / bread rolls. And yes, of course you can put mince or whatever on it. Vetkoek though has quite a different taste to bread rolls and really really yummy!
