I just call it BERRY PICKING!

Scott and I did what is now being called "Wild Crafting" this morning... I just call it "berry picking". We are planning to go back tomorrow after I get off work at 10 (yes; I'm having to work on a Sunday - INVENTORY STINKS). We just scoped out a berry patch along the 12th Street Extension; parked the car off the side of the road and started picking. People were slowing down; honking; staring; and one guy hollered, "HEY! Get outta dat berry patch!" - like his lazy butt was planning to come pick berries there in a road right of way.

I don't know what got picked more - the berries or us as Scott was pretty bloody by the time we called it quits and I have several small scratches and I'm sure my clothing contains some thorns as I kept getting caught trying to bully my way through the patch. I was thankful to have on jeans and my steel toed boots (YES - I have a pair and wear them). We have one berry bucket full (5 pounds) and I'd like to get at least another full bucket - two if possible to make up a bunch of jam.

  1. It sounds like quite an experience. I guess it must be a busy road! Sounds like you had some losers drive by but hey, you and Scott are the winners! Enjoy your berries!

  2. Oh, I 'm glad you could pick all those be rries. I like to eat blueberries frozen with cold milk poured over them. The milk freezes and it turns into a natural blueberry slushy.. so y ummy :) :)

We have lots of wild raspberry bushes, Oregon grape, etc...and I often see people stopping on the roadsides to pick and eat them. They're good for you and no one gives them a hard time. Sounds like that guy that got mad was just in a bad mood to begin with :):) I hope you can pick some more berries :) :) J ust be careful :) :) Have a great weekend. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  3. I've heard of road rage but didn't know it extended to berry picking. I suppose the aggro guy was just peeved because he didn't have his bucket with him!
Sounds like you have enough berries for pie and jam if you don't eat too many fresh ones :).
My son hates stocktake too as he works in a supermarket and monthly stocktakes are usually on from 7pm to whenever they finish...somewhere between midnight and 2am.
    Cheers,
    Robyn
