OH so much Fun!

I've been busy making and collecting items for a baby shower basket.

And I made Abby a little sun-dress. Got to buy a little more fabric to make a matching hat didn't have quite enough leftovers to make one.

And last but not least this UGLY quilt top. These blocks were together in a baggie and I've been looking at them too much lately so I started just sewing them together and this was the end result; one UGLY start to a quilt.

I believe that the shower was a success! And doesn't the Mommy look happy?!

Such a Sleepy Rainy Day

I worked 6 hours this morning and it's been raining off and on all morning. I'm thinking a nice nap would be lovely at this point.

I did some mandatory training today that had to be completed before the close of business today - I trained and PASSED the little quiz at the end. YEAH! One thing less to do this week.

I'm going to sew some things this afternoon but first that nap.....

Memorial Day

I hope that everyone that reads our little blog has an enjoyable Memorial Day today. I'm off and enjoying the chance to nap when ever the urge strikes. It's a 4 day work week for me this week after working 6 and 7 day weeks since the beginning of March. I feel I will be so much better at work with taking this time off.

I went to K-mart last night and bought THE MOST COMFORTABLE nightie for myself as well as some items for my new little nephew that will arrive at the beginning of the Summer. I plan to sew some items today to add to what I bought yesterday and there is one more item I want to buy for them. I'm going to put all the stuff in a nice basket and cover it in netting and ship it up hopefully in time for the baby shower on the 30th. I'm big on functional USEFUL items and not so much on stuff just for the fun of it. Hopefully they will enjoy what I send.

He is in the hospital but they are having difficulty keeping IV's in him because he is so dehydrated. He can't keep anything down and is loosing weight rapidly.

From Bowl... to dish... and in the oven!

The cobbler is in the oven baking and we are making oatmeal for breakfast with some toast on the side. We will need to make a grocery run for some vanilla bean ice cream to go with the cobbler and other items we are out of; time to make a shopping list.

What a DREAM!!!

OK the dream that awoke me at 6:55 on my day off - I was serving mini bottles to all the nasty customers to make them nicer. OH BOY! Did I need today off... thats SO BAD! But they WERE a lot nicer after about a half dozen bottles.

It's looking like it's supposed to rain today; a good day to stay inside and sew. Scott picked a HUGE bowl of blackberries that are waiting for me to bake a pie or cobbler; so I will do that for him today as well. Right now Tesla is watching me and once in awhile will make a little cat noise to let me know he is still near by in case I need a fat orange cat and he also let me know that Nick finally turned up at the window for his breakfast as well. When I fed Amelia she looked at me like she really wished I had the leash in my hand instead of her cup of food so I guess we will work a walk in for her as well. If the sun comes out today that is.

Sore this morning

Well I used muscles yesterday that I think my body had forgotten all about pulling down fixtures and moving product to "H" carts at the front of the store. WOW what a difference it makes; people are actually looking at the product now. And I actually sold more yesterday than I have in the 5 weeks it's been setting up there in the alley way as we called it. Perhaps my sales will increase enough to pull me out of the payroll hole that I've dug myself into this month.

Tesla had a grand outdoor adventure yesterday while I was at work. Greg let him slip outside. Thankfully nothing happened to him except now he is pining to be outside. He just absolutely freaks out when he is outside alone and does not know the ways of the outdoors and I worry he will get hurt. He is a spoiled little wretch! When Greg picked him up to bring him back in yesterday Tesla made all kinds of nasty cat noises.

Later in the evening he was Mr Suck-up to Scott and then he was healer cat for me. He fell asleep hard on my legs when I got in the recliner to watch a little TV - and it was VERY little TV as I fell right to sleep too.

Our garden is looking GREAT! And I've been trying to beat Amelia to the blackberries. I picked enough yesterday to make some muffins this morning. The entire time I was picking I could hear her smacking away on blackberries - WEIRD DOG!

All Dressed Up and no where to go.....

PICTURE TIME!!!!

Aw Monday has arrived

OH yeah! Another Monday is here and it's a full one as usual. I always have so much to do on Mondays at work. I'm hoping to be able to head home at 4:30 this afternoon so that I can have a little sewing time before I go to bed. I have baby gifts to make and time is short.

Scott has been wonderful doing laundry, cooking and doing the dishes. The house needs a DEEP clean but it's livable.

It rained and rained yesterday. Everything is so green outside and full; makes it look like a jungle where ever we go. I so want to go up to our property and see how things are growing up there. Perhaps we will get that chance this weekend. If only we had one of the cabins built... a little retreat would be nice as well.

It's time to pull things together and get out the door.

I brought home treasure!

I got some variegated Maxi Lock thread that normally sells for $9.95 each for $0.97 each. The quilt blocks were $3.97 each as they are close outs; I couldn't get all 12 blocks and we were out of setting kits but I got 9 and that will be large enough for a baby quilt. I'm sure someone I know will have a baby girl eventually. And the glass are to make the Beta Fish homes using a live plant on top to oxygenate the water. Perhaps this method will work for me. And the sewing machine feet were also clearance at $2.97 each and I got a gathering foot as well as an overcast foot. The needle threader was also clearance and it reminded me of the one my Grandma had so I had to have one.

Promoting SEWING!

I thought I'd take a moment to promote sewing as I believe everyone should be able to do their own clothing repairs or construction. A really GREAT site is http://www.sewing.org/
Sewing.org has so much useful information with printable sewing guides from how to read a pattern to all types of seam construction. And they have FREE projects and a monthly visit through pictures of sewing rooms around the US in homes just like ours. Of course I will also have to suggest http://www.joann.com/joann/ because thats who I work for and their site also contains some wonderful FREE printable projects under the projects tab on the site... sewing, crocheting, jewelry making, scrap-booking and misc. other crafts.

Sewing is fun and you will be able to make some unique items for yourself as well as others. It's really not as hard as people think and the rewards are so worth it.

Yesterday in photo's

The scent of Magnolias in the back yard accompanied our hard work. The remains of the old beds that we replaced and the cow jaw that fascinated Greg in 1992 when we went to NY for my 20th High School Reunion.

Scott helped me so much yesterday and Amelia LOVED having her "Pack Leader" in the yard most of the day with her as well.

We set two of the newly built raised beds over into the garden and wished that we did not need the electric wire around it anymore. Amelia is still bad about digging in the beds. I have thought about putting a pretty picket fence around it instead but that would cost money that we don't have right now and it would be more difficult to maintain. Two more beds waiting to be set over into the garden and we will have our garden set for this year and we can plant more veggies!

Mothers Day!

So far I've just spent a nice day with Scott. Greg, in all the years he has been my son has not been a gift giver on Mother's Day so I don't expect anything. I'm just happy to be his Mom. - AHHHH! Where did this stranger come from - Greg just called from Lowes and is bringing me a Mother's Day gift! WOW! Maybe the Navy has helped him step outside himself a bit.

Scott and I set 2 of the newly built raised beds over into the garden this morning and I mowed about half of the back yard. I wish that Greg would mow the rest of it for us. The dandelions are really putting on a big yellow show at the moment and I'm sure all our neighbors are cringing as they spend a small fortune on weed killers and fertilizers to keep their lawns un-naturally green and pristine. Our yard is 100% organic and chemical free and we have more birds and beneficial bugs in our yard to combat any of the bad things that could move in. Nature has a balance and if left alone it can and will take care of itself without our medaling.

We stopped by Scott's Mother's to give her a Mother's Day card and gift card to Belk's - her favorite store in the world.

Now I'm ready for a nap before I delve into the work that I brought home to do.

Little Garden

The little flower garden that I put in last week is maturing well and things are looking so lovely. I just went out and had to come back in for the camera to share photos of it. The Dahlia is SO stunning and the Mandavila is going to need a trellis soon.

SEWING DAY!!!!

I'm going to sew today! FINALLY a day off! I pr-ewashed some fabric for projects yesterday and plan to make a few things today. Right now I am enjoying the quiet sounds of the morning - coffee maker keeping the freshly made coffee hot, the cats grooming themselves with an occasional deep purrr and the hum of my computer as I type. Scott and Greg are still asleep. I may take the opportunity to nap later today.

Scott set out some of the remaining tomatoes and the rest of the pepper plants that we had bought just in time for some nice rain showers to move through the area. Luckily we didn't get the tornado weather that they were forecasting. Everything we've planted is growing well - just need to get a handle on the weeds before they take over and destroy all our hard work.

Mother's Day - what shall we do? I will actually be off this Sunday and am SO looking forward to that. I want to do something special for our Mom's but I'm not sure what... perhaps something will come to me today while I'm sewing.

Photo Contest

Scott and I entered 2 photos each into the City's photo contest this year. I entered the picture I took of the railroad pass over the river in the fog where I caught the reflexion so well and a picture of Scott from our fishing adventure - him playing hooky. Scott won last year with his photo of the rail over pass and was the center of the City Calendar. I believe I wrote about him getting "Centerfold Status"... ha ha.

I caught some pictures of the double rainbow that appeared in the sky day before yesterday. It was just so stunning people even sent pictures in to the local TV station for those that missed seeing it. I wish I could have got a shot without the powerlines in it but OH WELL - it's still lovely.

Tuesday Morning

I wish it was a sunny AT HOME morning! But I have to leave for work in just a few minutes. This week has not started off too hot but we'll get through it. I AM looking forward to being off on Thursday and hopefully nothing will arise that has to have my attention at the store the entire day.
I need a down day.

Got some black baby silk to make myself a top. I love the way baby silk feels it's so soft and smooth against your skin.

Greg's adventure at the Strip Club has caught up with him in that they got everything in his bank account plus some into his Emergency Funds account. He still isn't thinking responsibly... UGH!

A New Week Begins!

It's day one of a new week and I'm hoping for a smooth one. Next weekend is Mother's Day followed on the 11th with our 24th wedding anniversary - WOW! I wish that we could take a couple days away together like to Asheville. Maybe next year we will be able to celebrate BIG with it being our 25th.

It's looking like rain for today but the garden needs it so it'll be just fine with me. Perhaps it will also give us a chance to get everything done for the week too at the store. Lot's of new sets throughout the store with the new months arrival. Some interesting new merchandise thats for sure.

People Never Cease to Amaze me....

This is just a venting post as I have had my fill of disrespectful people this week and it's hard to stay positive and upbeat when you see so much day in and day out.

In this week alone I've witnessed so much...
Two kids under 6 calling each other A _ _ Holes while the mother just stood by and said nothing....
A baby abandoned in a shopping cart near the front of the store while the mother and Grandmother were at the back of the store shopping....
Children ignored as they opened packages or destroyed displays throughout the store....
Children just "turned loose" while Mother's shopped....
ADULTS opening packages and then just throwing them down...

People like this don't realize that if they would mind their children, clean up after themselves or just hand the merchandise to the cashier when they changed their minds it would make their shopping experience a lot better because we could focus more on helping them find what they need and less on cleaning up after them or their children. This world is going to go in the toilet as hardly anyone is teaching children respect for others these days thats for sure.
