Evening Stroll by the River

After a day of feeling bored out my gourd and only cooking, eating and sleeping we figured we needed to get off our rear ends and go for a walk along the River.
Turkey Vultures roosting for the night.
Scott read recently where these vultures will actually throw-up and poop on workers if they are startled... makes me glad neither of us are power or cell tower workers. YIK! Can you imagine the smell - they eat rotting carcasses. EWWW!
Double trestles over the Congaree river.
I just love capturing the reflections.
Nearly a full moon.

Moon and it's reflection.

Really Cool  Beetle just doing it's thing!

A Lovely Fall Walk

Everything has taken on a different appearance by the River; a lot of the trees have lost nearly all their leaves so that you can see well into the woods. The grasses have died back so that you can see more of the smaller creatures scurrying about trying to prepare for the really cold weather yet to come in late December through February. There were a lot of dogs on walks with their owners today; an absolutely stunning German Sheppard named Hank decided to take a bit of a detour from his owners and went under the boardwalk and came up behind us and popped up and looked at us like where are they you aren't my people. He ran to them and was so pleased to get back on his leash.

The River has turned to such an interesting shade of green; we believe this  is being caused by people dumping "fall fertilizer" on their lawns and it's run off. The Extension service says to NOT do this as it just sets the lawns up for heavy winter kill. We do not fertilize at all unless it's in the Spring and of an organic nature like manure. Or even just plant some winter rye grass and then mow it without a bag so the clippings bio-degrade right on the lawn. Chemical Fertilizers are bad...m-Kay?

Good Early Morning -Again

I'm not sure why I can't sleep in anymore but thats OK - it gives me a quiet time before everyone else is awake and moving about. I expected to awake to rain but none has appeared. This is our forecast...
"TODAY CLOUDY. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF
THUNDERSTORMS THIS MORNING
THEN SHOWERS WITH A CHANCE OF
THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THE MID 80S. SOUTHEAST
WINDS AROUND 5 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN 80 PERCENT.

TONIGHT
SHOWERS WITH A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL POSSIBLE. LOWS IN THE UPPER 60S. SOUTHEAST WINDS AROUND
5 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN NEAR 100 PERCENT. "

I will believe it when I see it.

Last night I wasn't really feeling much like walking but I went along with Scott so that he could work off some stress - he ran I walked. Then we got separated and I decided to sit by the River and wait for him to come back by... he had gone back to the car not further up the trail. He found me by borrowing someone's phone to call me - I almost didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number. While I was sitting there I got to see several cranes fly over and a bunch of fish jumping in the water; trying to catch bugs. It was so peaceful.

Deep Cleaning and Yard Sale Prepping

I decided this morning that I would start tackling this house one closet/cabinet/room at a time; bagging stuff up to donate (clothes) and marking stuff for a yard sale that I will have on July 31rst. I want to get rid of about 1/3 of our "stuff"- possibly more. It's just STUFF taking up room that I have to clean around. I'd rather see someone else get use from it. Today I got through the linen closet, the coat closet and the entry... Looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Tesla decided that the linen closet was now "his room"; poor thing doesn't realize that the vacuum has to go in that spot. Tomorrow I will tackle the other closet in the hall-way - Holiday decorations. UGH! I think I will get rid of everything that isn't Halloween or Christmas. I don't really decorate for the others anymore since Greg is a grown man - not that he isn't wild enough to appreciate the decorations. He is such a cut-up and would play along for Mom's sake. But I'm just NOT that into decorating. I would love to have a Halloween party this year but who knows where we will be or what our circumstances will be then either.

Here is what I have ready for the yard sale (CHEST not included)...

I went to walk by the river by myself this morning before it got dreadfully hot. Saw this dead fish and had to stop and wonder how it came to it's end. It was over a foot long... I'm not really sure what kind of fish that it is but I'm sure Scott will let me know. I thought this vine looked interesting on this tree right on the bank of the river... I also saw one of the families of Geese that have made the Congaree their home this year..

Time to get dinner made.... NOTE TO SELF! DO NOT PUT A PAN TO BOIL AND THEN DO A BLOG POST! I sure hope I can get the melted aluminum off that burner when it cools and the stink out of this house before we have to go to sleep tonight.

River Walk EXCITEMENT!

Today we saw a once in a lifetime opportunity. A pair of Pileated Woodpeckers showing their 2 hatch-lings how to get to bugs in a tree. When we went to pull the camera out all but one flew away and it let us watch it for quite some time. These were some of the best shots as well as a short video. AMAZING!

Sunday Walk at the River

I have to be to work in about an hour. Scott and I and the dog (Amelia) decided to walk at the River. It was a lovely day and we found some amazing fungi to photograph and a young lady took a picture of the 3 of us for us. We are definitely older and wider than we once were but we still enjoy spending time together... even after nearly 25 years. I used the picture in our header and am posting pictures here of our fungi findings. OH almost forgot the little skink Scott spotted on our way into the walk.

July 2024.... really?

Here it is another year since I have written on this blog. Since I found You Tube and started doing videos over there this blog has become ...
