Our Saturday Adventures

Fresh from the Market
Our  first stop today was the new State Farmers Market which is located not  far from our home. It's going to take us awhile to learn how to get  around it as it is set up a bit weird. I bought 3 plants that I will  tell you about tomorrow. And we got some beautiful produce... zucchini  squash, sweet potatoes, bell peppers, onions and a watermelon.
Gravely Tractor
We decided to bring the vegetables and plants back to the house so that they wouldn't be sitting in the hot car while we continued on with our day. Scott also wanted to check and see what Types of oil he needed to pick up for his old Gravely Tractor and his Nissan.

Cookbooks
Our first stop after the pit stop at the house was O'Riley's for the oil. Then we went on  to The Old Mill Antique Mall and thoroughly enjoyed looking through all the vendors booths. I found a couple cookbooks in one booth that was selling EVERYTHING 50% off as they were going out of business. Then when we went up stairs I found a Pampered Chef Cut 'N Seal for just $4 - brand new still in the original packaging ( I took it out of the packaging to photograph it clearly). I'm thinking some mini-Calzones are in our future.
By the time we were done at the Antique Mall we were both hungry so we stopped at Zesto's (YUMMY). We each got a "White Snack" with sweet iced tea, and a fudge sundae. After we left there I wanted to stop at Jo-Ann Fabrics to see if the pattern I wanted had made it's way into the drawers. Well when we pulled into the parking lot this is what we saw....
Civil War Canon

It's a Civil War Cannon; there was a re-enactment in Sandy Run about a 40 minute drive from where we live. Scott said you could smell where it had been fired for the re-enactment. I left him in charge of getting these photos while I went inside to find the pattern I was waiting to arrive in the store. I also picked up a new little girls dress pattern - this one has a pattern to make matching shorts for the "wild girls" that can't sit lady like in my life.
Speaking of one of my "Wild Girls"... my little niece Abby (Dougie's sister) is now in the hospital for the same reason - Rotovirus. Please give a thought or a Prayer for her. She is very special to both of us as well as the rest of the family.

Enjoyable Read and a few bits from the yard....

Heather over at http://heathersblog-o-rama.blogspot.com/ introduced me to a perfectly lovely magazine and I have been thoroughly enjoying this copy. I'm thinking I may have to make the Blueberry French Toast Casserole thats on page 68; along with some of the Blueberry Sauce and take it into work one morning. It looks delicious! There is so many fun things to read throughout the entire magazine. If you want to "try" a copy I know the Tractor Supply had it on the shelf here.

The garlic is such a joy for us at every stage. Scott likes to let a few go onto flower just so we can watch them open. I thought this looked a lot like a birds beak opening up.

The Easter Lilies may eventually put on a real show for us.... stay tuned!

And here is a bloom on the Pyracanthas at the corner of the house.
Not nearly as pretty as the bright red berries it shows off in the winter months but still pretty to look at. Scott is talking about mowing the lawn tomorrow so perhaps I will get out there and trim a little on some bushes.

And once the lawn is taken care of perhaps we will get to the Antique Mall before it closes. I still have a ways to go on the doily I started as well but I'm just too tired to work on it tonight - it would end up a mess for sure.

This, That and The Other... On my Mind

This post is just a little of whats on my mind today. You can join in the fun and join the rest of us with Rhonda at  Down to Earth .

A book arrived today from a dear friend in Maine.

A bloom on my Magnolia tree - it's a LOVE/HATE relationship - goes right along with Wysteria.

A Hydrangea by the garden shed.

Amelia pointed out that the blackberries will be ready to pick soon. Crazy dog eats them almost faster than I can pick them - I guess I should be glad she is willing to share.
I wish it would rain! So I wouldn't have to do this.
And yesterday I got a wild hare and ripped up this section of the carpet in our bedroom. We will finish the tear out this weekend I do believe. We are both sick to death of carpet and with these wood floors hiding underneath it's crazy to keep something we hate.
I tried to get you all some picture of the three Mississippi Kite's that were calling and flying over head but they were camera shy and too graceful and fast for me. I'm so happy they are back as they will thin out the squirrel population fast.

This is a Friday photo feature that anyone with a blog can join. It opens the door to us sharing our lives through these photos and gives us all a new way to discover each other, and maybe form new friendships. Your photo should show something at home that you're thinking about TODAY. If you're in another country you should join in when you read this, even if it's still Thursday.

To take part, all you have to do is post a photo, write a short caption explaining it, and link it back to here ( Down To Earth ). Please write a new post, don't link to an older one. When your photo is published, come back and add a comment below, with a link to your blog photo. Please visit all the blogs that appeal to you and leave a comment. If you are wondering why no one has commented on your On my mind post, maybe it's because you haven't commented on anyone else's. Slow down, take the time to cruise around and enjoy your cyber visits.

Wednesday all ready!

Here it is Wednesday all ready and I could have slept another hour this morning but forgot to change the alarm time. Oh well! GOOD MORNING!

Good news... Dougie was sent home yesterday. He had lost 6 lbs in 2 days and he didn't have ANY to spare to begin with but they felt he was well enough to go home. His sister and brother came down with the same thing night before last and my parents were doing their best to care for them while my Sister-In-Law was with Dougie at the Hospital. I will call them after I get off from work to see how all three children are doing today. I am planning to send them some goodies in the mail to cheer them a bit.

Skirt Progress and Mother's Day

I have the skirt all cut out for the sew-a-long on the Simplicity Facebook page; perhaps today I will get the stay stitching put in and a little of the sewing done as well; it all depends on what time I get off from work and how tired I am when I get here.
I did this on Sunday afternoon and had really hoped to get a bit of the sewing done then; ah well. There is always Thursday since the Magistrates office called and canceled my Jury duty. Most people cringe when they are called for Jury duty but I enjoy it and the process of it. Maybe next time. Most times I'm cast off though because of my Criminal Justice degree; I think the Defence teams think it's a detriment to their clients.

Yesterday I started a light pink doily for Scott's Mom for Mother's day. I hope that she will like it. I figure she can use it in one of her bedroomsl she has two that have pink in the wall paper.
I have the dish cloth for the dish cloth swap all ready to mail tomorrow. My partner lives in Canada and I am hoping she will like the one that I made. I'm kinda wishing that I had made one in brighter colors so she'd have something more cheerful in her kitchen. Maybe next time.

It's 4 AM and I need to get dressed and ready to head on out the door. I hope that everyone has a lovely Tuesday.

My Nephew, Dougie!

Dougie is in Children's Hospital; very ill and needs all the Prayer's we can give him as he fights Rotovirus and several other intestinal issues.

Thank you in advance.

One cat.... Two cats....

I started the morning with feeding the cats and the dog and then making coffee. While the coffee was brewing I started up my computer and a load of laundry. It wasn't long until I was joined at the computer by cat #1...
Then after I made a steak, scrambled eggs and grits with cheese breakfast I sat down to catch up a bit more on the blogs that I follow and was joined by cat #2...
Now cat #1 has decided to start a grooming session so that I can't even see the screen where I am typing. UGH CATS!

Oh well I really need to get out into the garden before it gets too hot if I am to accomplish all that I want to. This afternoon I need to cook a BIG meal as we will both need lunches tomorrow as they have extended my shift by 3.5 to 4 hours. And I also want to sew some today on the skirt for the Sew-A-long. I have the pattern cut out but I need to make some adjustments at the waist before I can cut the fabric. With that said I guess that I should get rolling.

July 2024.... really?

Here it is another year since I have written on this blog. Since I found You Tube and started doing videos over there this blog has become ...
