The Garlic King

Here he is planting garlic...
It's that time again... time to plant the garlic. We still have a BUNCH left to eat here in the house. He will be planting the rest of this pile...
He separates them into cloves and plants them about 6 inches apart. We will mulch them once they appear above ground.

The tomatoes that I threatened with taking up and adding to the compost have decided to put on a bunch of new growth so we decided to just let them grow until it freezes. This is the weirdest Fall we've had in a long time.

Furniture with a story

This piece of furniture was a curbside rescue... headed for the dump heap. It resides in our hallway next to the hall bathroom. It holds childhood memories, items I've created with my own hands, cookbooks that our son Greg is collecting and will one day take with him when he moves out and my stationery. I used to write "snail mail" letters to people all over the planet but have now turned to Internet communication like most everyone else. And yet I still hold onto that old stationery because I still write to people on occasion. There are also some items that belonged to my Mother when she was a child and there are seashells we collected on South Carolina Beaches as well as Tybee Island shells. The paper heart was made for me by Greg when he was a little boy and it has two Ying Yang symbols on it that the other children picked on him about because they weren't hearts. Greg understands life is about balance and finding what works for him... he has always thought "outside the box". THANKFULLY!

I also have two hand made rolled wax candles that my niece, Gwen made for me when she was little. She recently moved across the country to Seatle and we all miss her but wish her well.

Let's see whats behind Greg's paper heart... shall we?
Do you see anything that reminds you of YOUR childhood? The little tea cup set was my Mothers as well as the little elephant. The little baby doll toward the center back is wearing a little dress and panties that my Mother crocheted for her and sent to me years ago when I lived in New York with Grandma (Ma). The little doll to the left was an item Scott bought over seas when he was in the Navy. Lots of memories in this cabinet... you know the kind that are truly cherished. There is a green cat bank that my Mother bought for me after we had left the Lawyers office when she was divorcing my first Step-father. The plastic red and yellow bird whistles like a real bird when you fill the bottom with water and blow on his tail. The red and yellow chicken lays bubble gum eggs... after you shove them in that is... I always thought that part was just wrong having grown up with real chickens and we never had to put eggs inside them for some to come out. HA HA... the mind of a child. The little cat in the chair is actually two pieces and the chair opens up as a little box. Bugs Bunny will dance if you push up on his platform. There are some "Art" dolls that I received in a swap a few years ago. And more...

What's in your cabinet?

An Evening Walk along the River

First... welcome to everyone popping in from Rhonda's blog. Thanks for stopping in!

Scott and I took an absolutely wonderful walk along the river and captured some amazing sights!
A Hungry Beaver left it's mark.

Anyone that follows my blog knows I'm CRAZY about Fungi!

The River is up a little from all the rain we have been getting.

Two Green Snakes in one walk... AMAZING!

A Get-a-way would be lovely

Even if it is just a day trip... I would so enjoy a small adventure. Perhaps we will manage something over the weekend. Nothing expensive just interesting and/or beautiful. I'd even pack a lunch so we wouldn't have to buy food on the road. It'll give me something to think about.

Today is truck processing day and we will be kept busy up until the very last minutes of our shifts I'm sure. It makes the day go by a whole lot faster. My department didn't get very much so hopefully we will be able to get caught up on everything this week. Once I leave for the day not much more gets accomplished. There are just so many small individually wrapped items toward the back of my department. Stickers and jewelry are all individually wrapped in packs of 3 and they are taped or stapled as well. I swear those boxes feel like a never ending bowl of noodles.

Our Fat Cat - Tesla
A Witches Hat I made several years ago!
If you haven't left a comment on my give-a-way post and want a chance to win a box of hand made goodies jump back to this post.... woo-hooooooo-5000-hits-on-globe and leave a comment to be in the drawing. I will draw a comment from a hat on Halloween... a WITCHES HAT to be exact!

A Message from my sister...

My sister Robin posted this message on Facebook....

"I have a museum with a major Classical collection interested in getting some of my pottery for their gift shop. Happy, happy, happy!"

AWESOME!!!!! I have told her for years that her Pottery would take off! She has an Etsy shop Clay Baby Pottery if you'd care to see her work. I am ever so excited for her and VERY proud of her.

Robin is 5 years younger than I and we have 2 more sisters and 2 brothers younger than us. When she was born I was EVER so mad because I wanted a brother. I got my brother 2 years later but grew to love Robin anyway... even if she wasn't a boy. HA HA! Summers were spent with them visiting on the Farm where I lived with Grandma and we had so much fun over those Summers and I always cried and cried when it was time for them to leave. (Long painful story full of lies and misunderstandings that I choose to leave in the past to be happy now).

CONGRATS ROBIN! Love you!

Fall and Illness

I'm sitting here with a splitting headache and Scott has gone to bed feeling cold. HA HA.. yesterday he told me he was feeling a bit better - I didn't believe it then and NOW I really don't believe him. His Sinuses just won't clear up. We can't afford to take time away from our jobs... no sick leave for the hourly - you don't work = you don't get paid.

I'm thrilled the Season is changing but am REALLY worried about the viruses that will be making their rounds this Winter.
