Movie with my son...

I finally got to go see a movie with Greg; it's been ages since we had an afternoon together. He spends a lot of time with friends and thats normal for his age but I do miss him and was thrilled when he said that he'd go see Avatar with me today at the $2 cinema on St. Andrews road. We both thoroughly enjoyed the movie and agreed that it was crazy that people had children under 13 in there watching it. It was definitely NOT for small children. It shocks me that people are so into de-sensitizing their children to violence. It's no wonder this World is so out of control with so much hatred and violence. We are raising an entire generation of haters - Kindness, thoughtfulness, love and patience are no longer taught and it's quite sad.

Back to the movie... all the special effects were AWESOME and the story depicted what is happening everyday in our rain forests around the World. I wanted to crawl through the screen and take out some of the "bad guys" myself. When we stop caring for the Earth she will stop caring for us and then what will we do.

Lunch and Azalea Blooms

I made homemade Chicken Noodle Soup for lunch.... YUMMY....

And this morning I went out in the yard to find azaleas in full bloom...

I can hardly wait for the rain...

We are supposed to be getting some much needed rain tonight with the possibility of some thunderstorms. I am so looking forward to the storms as it will clean the air at least for a little while. Yesterday I bought some new furnace filters and got ones that are made for collecting pollen and other allergens in the hopes that they will also help. When I went to switch them out the date written on the old ones was 11/9/09 - OOPS! A little past the 30 days that you are supposed to change it; but at least it is now changed for at least another 30 days.

Yesterday I also bought groceries so we should be good until the end of the month; except for milk and eggs which I seem to have to make added trips for every 3 to 4 days never fails. We eat way more dairy products than we should I'm afraid.

Not really anything planned today - feeling a bit out of it. I may just curl up with my book I'm reading and finish it off.

All settled in....

The new raised beds are all set into the garden and bolted together so they can't shift. Now to get them filled with dirt - that will take a bit of time but we will eventually get them filled with excellent organic growing matter - dirt.

The walk-ways are a bit narrow at 18" - would really like at least 24" between beds but we are fitting to the space available. We will make it work.

Spring - has SPRUNG!

And it's most definitely the season of pollen!

Scott washed the cars yesterday; not that they'll stay clean for long but thats ok

- they looked clean for about an hour and then the pollen was right back on them. We need a good rain to clean the air.

Today we will build a final raised bed for the garden and with any luck we will have them all set into the garden area by the end of the day.

The bed by the fence needs to be filled with dirt, compost, manure and peat moss and then I can transplant the rosemary bush thats currently in the center of our regular garden area where the 4 remaining raised beds will be placed. I'm going to need a LOT of dirt to get all these filled up and it will take them a couple years before they are actually "perfect" Happy Gardening!

Early Morning

I'm up early this morning as Scott's alarm went off about 5 and I went ahead and got up with it. I may need a nap later today but for now I'm doing all right. Yesterday I mowed the entire yard, finished the piles of laundry that I had not gotten done the day before and we (Scott and I) drove up to the property to check on things since a bad storm blew through and we wanted to be sure we hadn't lost any large trees. Everything was fine at the property and it was nice to be around a lot less traffic even for just the 30 minutes we were up there. It's so rejuvenating!

I made myself a list of tasks to get completed this week and there is still quite a bit on that list so as soon as Scott gets up I will complete some more on it. Don't want to make too much noise too early. I may go on out to the garden as soon as the sun comes up though as I do have "weeding garden beds" on my list. Perhaps when Scott gets up we can get a few more raised beds built. Once we get 4 more into the garden bed out back it will be complete except for filling the beds. I'm really excited about having a garden this year as I will have time to focus on it and I will be putting a LOT up for later use. Especially since we bought a canner last year. The rhubarb that I planted has come up and is getting some nice leaves on it. The asparagus isn't doing anything at all and I'm worried that it's not going to but I will wait a bit more before I email Gurneys about it.

Another task is to make a Pooh baby quilt for one of Greg's Navy friends as she just had a baby girl and requested a "Pooh" quilt. The fabric is pre-washed and in the dryer waiting on me. I also have 4 quilt blocks to make using pastel green, blue, pink and yellow fabrics. Each block is to be a 12" finished block. I actually started on these the other day but messed up and have to re-cut some squares and start again. It happens... doesn't make me happy but it's no big deal. these blocks are for a swap that I am in - I will make another baby quilt with these to have on hand for the next baby that comes along.

Still no word on a job for Scott but we are still hopeful and he continues to apply for jobs; something will come up soon.

July 2024.... really?

Here it is another year since I have written on this blog. Since I found You Tube and started doing videos over there this blog has become ...
